Astana to unveil monument to soldiers died on Tajik-Afghan border

ASTANA. KAZINFORM Astana city will unveil on April 7 the monument in memory of 17 Kazakhstani soldiers died in 1995 defending the Tajik-Afghan border, astana.kz reports.

Over the period of 1993-1999 more than 2,000 military of the Kazakh internal troops performed tasks under the realm of protection of the CIS external borders. The bloodiest event occurred on April 7, 1995 in the Pshihavr Gorge, claiming the lives of 17 young soldiers of Kazakhstan. Our soldiers fulfilled their military duties abiding by the military oath and never damaging reputation and dignity of the Kazakhstan battalion, the press release of the Internal Affairs Ministry reads. Besides, the alley was opened in April 2009 in memory of 17 heroes of internal troops, streets and schools were named after those soldiers.
