Astana to hold 3rd EAPC Security Forum

BRUSSELS. May 29. KAZINFORM. /Yerzhan Ospanov/ The Astana Palace of Independence will host the third Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council Security Forum, with the participation of high level representatives from NATO and partner countries, on June 24-25. The NATO Secretary General, Mr. Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, will chair the Forum; Kazinform refers to the organization?s press office.

EAPC countries? representatives will attend a working dinner on June 24. The program of the next day will begin with opening of a plenary session followed by 3 working groups, and finish with a closing plenary session. The representatives of EAPC countries, prominent media and NGOs will attend the panels as speakers. This year the panels will focus on Afghanistan, Central Asia ? Caucasus (security regional perspectives), and energy security. An information day on NATO?s Science for Peace and Security (SPS) Programme will be held on June 24 at the Kazakh National Al-Farabi University in Almaty. The objective of this event is to discuss priorities and challenges for Central Asia in the field of security and science. Representatives of state bodies, scientists, experts and students from Central Asia will take part in the Information Day. The Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council unites 46 states, including 26 NATO member countries and 20 partner countries.
