Astana's bid to host World Mining Congress 2018 wins unanimous support in Montreal

ASTANA. August 12. KAZINFORM The 23rd session of the World Mining Congress 2013 in Montreal has considered Kazakhstan's bid to host the 25th World Mining Congress in Astana in 2018, Kazinform was told by the press service of the Kazakh Embassy in Canada.

Addressing the event, Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Canada Konstantin Zhigalov made presentation of the bid and briefed those present on the political and economic development of Kazakhstan, including the priorities of the State Program of Advanced Industrial and Innovative Development and the role of metallurgical complex in this respect.

Members of the WMC Organizing Committee unanimously supported Astana's bid.

It was also decided that a regular meeting of the organizing committee will take place in Astana within the framework of Astana Mining and Metallurgy Conference on June 12-13, 2014.

Astana has once again proved its status of the Eurasian platform where various forums, congresses and other high-profile events take place. Over the recent years the Kazakh capital has been in the international spotlight on numerous occasions.

The Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, the Astana Economic Forum and other top-level events are held in Astana on a regular basis. Astana welcomed the OSCE Summit in 2010, the jubilee SCO Summit, the OIC Ministerial Conference, the VII Asian Winter Games. At the moment Astana is gearing up for the upcoming International specialized exhibition EXPO-2017.
