Astana's bid for EXPO 2017 and Kazakhstan's accession to WTO discussed in Poland

ASTANA. June 23. KAZINFORM At the invitation of Polish Foreign Affairs Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, Kazakh Foreign Minister Yerzhan Kazykhanov visited Poland on June 21-22, the Kazakh MFA's press service said.

At a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of Poland Waldemar Pawlak the sides noted the growing trade, successful investments in Kazakhstan of Polish companies, their interest in the Program of Forced Industrial Innovative Development. The priorities of cooperation are energy, construction, pharmaceuticals and telecommunications.

Waldemar Pawlak is co-chairman of the Kazakh-Polish Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation. Its next meeting is scheduled for September 2012 in Astana.

The sides also discussed Kazakhstan's bid to host the International exhibition EXPO-2017 in Astana, the issues of the Customs Union, the forthcoming Kazakhstan's accession to the WTO and other relevant topics concerning further development of the Kazakh-Polish economic cooperation.

Taking into account the geographical position of our countries, there was noted a big potential for further joint development of transport and transit infrastructure in the light of the Kazakhstan's project of international transit corridor "Western Europe - Western China".

Kazykhanov in the framework of the visit also visited a leading think tank in Warsaw, Polish Institute of International Affairs, where he spoke on the priorities of Kazakhstan's foreign policy.
