Astana new university to be a new national brand - President

According to N. Nazarbayev, establishment of a new university is an important national project. "The new university of Astana should be created as a national brand combining Kazakhstan's identity, best international educational model and scientific practice", the Head of the State said at the sitting of the Council on Science and Scientific Policy on Friday.

Mr. Nazarbayev noted the university must not be large and have the natural science department and several departments in the sphere of engineering and technologies. He charged the Ministry of Education and Science to attract the world leading universities to the formation of scientific-educational programs, establishment of an education quality management system, training of Kazakhstani teachers.

According to the President, Almaty Information Technologies Institute, Nuclear Technology Institute, the constructed biological research center and projected nanotechnology laboratory will pass to the university. He urged the Government to fix peculiarities of functioning of the university in the law "On Science" and other legal acts.
