Astana holds seminar for judges on freedom of expression in judicial practices
The seminar started today aims to explore and define the meaning of the provisions of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) which are related to freedom of expression in correspondence with the accepted interpretation in international law and to recommend judges how to apply them in practice. The event is led by the experts of the UN Human Rights Committee and ARTICLE 19. Topics include freedom of expression under international law, guarantees of freedom of expression in national legislation of Kazakhstan, principles and precedents of violations of the right to freedom of expression in the UN Human Rights Committee, permissible restrictions on the right to freedom of expression, international principles regulating the Internet and access to public information, the OSCE Centre in Astana said.
