Astana and Beijing to sign agr'ts on sharing water of 24 transboundary rivers - MFA

ASTANA. December 19. KAZINFORM - In the short term, Astana and Beijing intend to enter the signing of agreements on water sharing concerning 24 transboundary rivers between our two countries. This has been stated today in Astana by the Kazakh Foreign Minister Yerlan Idrissov.
"Foreign Ministry this year in conjunction with the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources has created the expert council on the use and protection of transboundary rivers with neighboring countries. This expert body will develop specific recommendations to advance our interests and priorities in this area", said Mr. Idrissov at the briefing.
According to him, only from 2001 to 2013, there have been held 10 meetings of Kazakhstan-China Joint Commission on the use and protection of transboundary rivers. According to their results seven bilateral agreements have been endorsed.
