Astana Akimat has no funds for emergency demolition of ramshackle houses - Mayor

ASTANA. February 9. KAZINFORM /Damir Baimanov/ Astana Akimat has no funds for the emergency demolition of residential buildings, Astana Akim Imangali Tasmagambetov said at a meeting with residents on Thursday.
According to him, currently there are 228 emergency and ramshackle houses in the capital. These homes can not be repaired and require the demolition.
"In order to move people out, it is needed to provide them with alternative housing. This involves the construction of new residential estates, which will require about KZT 31 billion. We do not have such funds. Therefore, we are forced to deal with them as far as possible and gradually," Tasmagambetov noted.
In general, for 14 years from 1998, 859 thousand square meters (8.5 thousand apartments) of ramshackle houses were demolished.
