Asiad-2011 Torch Relay ceremony started in Astana

The Flame was lit by Director of the President's Centre of Culture Myrzatay Zholdasbekov who passed it to Mayor of Astana Imangali Tasmagambetov.

On the eve the Torch was brought to the capital of Astana.

100 torch bearers are involved in the ceremony in total. The Mayor passed the Torch to Nazgul Borambayeva, the international master of sport in boxing.

The Head of the city promised the citizens a grandiose show at the opening ceremony of Asiad-2011. According to him, the event will demonstrate the depth of culture and history of Kazakhstan and its people.

Among the torchbearers are Chairman of the National Space Agency Talgat Mussabayev, deputy of the Senate of the Kazakh Parliament Kuanysh Sultanov, Chairman of the Kazakhstan Boxing Federation Timur Kulibayev and many others.
