Aromatic hydrocarbons production complex to be launched at Atyrau refinery in H2 2014

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - An aromatic hydrocarbons production complex at Atyrau refinery will begin operation in the second half of 2014, Kazakh Minister of Oil and Gas Uzakbay Karabalin told a Government Hour in the Majilis.

"100% of the main process equipment was delivered to the aromatic hydrocarbons production complex at Atyrau refinery in 2013. Construction and installation work is underway. The project is expected to be launched in the second half of 2014," Karabalin said.

He also said that a consortium consisting of "Sinopec Engineering" (PRC), "Marubeni" (Japan) and "KazStroiServis" began work on the contract on the construction of the deep oil processing plant at Atyrau refinery, according to the website of the Prime Minister.

In addition, according to the ministry, there was signed a contract with "Rominserv" Company for the first stage of modernization of Pavlodar petrochemical plant. In relation to Shymkent refinery, there was approved a strategy for accelerated implementation of the project and the transition to the investment stage. Construction works started.

"The process of modernization of three Kazakh oil refineries will be completed in 2016. As a result, in 2017-2022, the country will be fully provided with gasoline, diesel and jet fuel in accordance with Euro-4 and Euro-5 standards," Karabalin added.
