Armenia to rename its foreign affairs ministry
Armenia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be renamed as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Qazinform News Agency quotes Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan as saying at a government meeting.
According to him, this change is in line with modern international practice, since in many developed countries the name of the foreign policy agency reflects the sphere of international economic relations.
Nikol Pashinyan noted that throughout the existence of the Third Republic, a significant part of the foreign ministry’s work was tied to conflict‑related issues.
“75-80% of the Foreign Ministry’s activities, without exaggeration, were connected either with the conflict itself or with actions and processes stemming from the conflict agenda,” Pashinyan stated.
He then said that renaming the ministry underscores the need to devote greater attention to the development of international economic relations.
Earlier, it was reported that the Armenian government plans to step up bilateral trade and business contacts with Azerbaijan as part of efforts to further strengthen peaceful relations between the two countries, according to a draft government program for 2026-2031.
