ArcelorMittal Temirtau to pay KZT 42.6 mln for environmental damage

KARAGANDA. July 22. KAZINFORM Karaganda Economic Court has ordered the collection of more than KZT 42.6 million for environmental damage affected by "ArcelorMittal Temirtau" JSC for committed excessive loss of one of the lava pits.

This has been announced today at a press briefing by the press secretary of the specialized inter-district economic court Indira Kuspaeva.

In addition, "ArcelorMittal Temirtau" has been charged with a state fee in the amount of about KZT 1.3 mln.

"As for the rest of the claim it has been denied," added the press-secretary of the Economic Court.

Meanwhile, the plaintiff requested to collect from ArcelorMittal Temirtau over KZT 2 billion damage to the environment. As follows from the statement of claim, in the second quarter of 2012, a specialized environmental prosecutor of Karaganda region with participation of "Tsentrkaznedra" specialists, Department of Ecology in the Karaganda region have audited the application of the legislation on subsoil and subsoil use and environmental legislation in the coal department of ArselorMittalTemirtau.
