"ArcelorMittal Temirtau" JSC implements project on production of electricity through degasification of methane in mines

Astana. July 9. KAZINFORM "ArcelorMittal Temirtau" JSC implements a pilot project on production of electricity through degasification of methane in the mines of the enterprise, advisor for the development of the coal production department of the company Sergazy Baimukhametov said in the interview for Pm.kz site.
"Last year, the company financed the project on production of electricity of methane extracted from the mines for ensuring workplace safety," S. Baimukhametov said.
Besides, he noted that the project was already launched in a pilot mode in January. The produced electricity is 1.4 megawatts and meets 20% of the demands for electricity in the mines.
"We saved about 200 thousand U.S. dollars in a half of the year. This is the first pilot project. We will continue to introduce similar projects every year. The cost of such a project makes USD 2 million," he added.
Besides, he noted that the company planned to work more on ensuring workplace safety, development of innovations, issues of modernization of production and equipment.
