ArcelorMittal Kazakhstan JSC to invest over KZT 1 bln in social projects in 2010

ASTANA. February 25. KAZINFORM /Damir Baimanov/ ArcelorMittal Kazakhstan JSC plans to invest over KZT 1 bln in social projects this year. Social Affairs Director of the Company Orman Kamzabayev announced it at a press conference in Astana Thursday.

Besides he informed of development of a program by the 50th anniversary of the Kazakhstan magnitka and the 65th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Thus, the Company has performed all obligations within the trilateral agreement with the Government and the memorandum of social cooperation with the administrations of Karaganda and Temirtau. This includes support of culture, sport, orphanages, veterans, students and solution of the region's problem.

The memorandum also provides for solution of water supply problems in Karazhal settlement. As the Company's press service clarifies, under this memorandum there were purchased 12 buses for orphanages and boarding schools of the oblast too.

In turn, Director General of ArcelorMittal Kazakhstan JSC Frank Pannier noted the Company had faced significant losses since autumn 2008. However, the leadership of the Company estimates the year 2010 as "cautiously optimistic".

According to him, in 2008 and 2009 improvement of the workers' health and control over observance of safety rules at the works was in spotlight of the Company. "Unfortunately we had several death cases, but 78% of them are just accidents", the Director said.
