Almaty to host government-civil society roundtable consultations

The roundtable discussion builds on implementation of State Action Plan for the transition to a new model of the criminal law and criminal justice.

It will focus on certain aspects of implementation of the Criminal Procedure Codes, which will become effective from 1 January 2015. Participants will discuss issues of filling the gaps in criminal procedure legislation in relation to introduction of a plea bargaining, the institute of investigating judge and release on bail. They will also exchange views on commentaries to new codes, which will describe a detailed explanation of main novelties, as well as recommendations on developing related by-laws and regulations. The event is part of the Centre's activities on providing expert and institutional support to the government and civil society in criminal justice reform in Kazakhstan, the OSCE Centre in Astana said.
