Almaty to get status of UN regional centre, MFA

ASTANA. June 10. KAZINFORM /Damir Baimanov/ "The city of Almaty will acquire the status of the UN regional centre," Kazakh Foreign Minister Yerzhan Kazykhanov told after the meeting with the heads of the UN Agencies in Kazakhstan.
"Kazakhstan's realization of plans on turning Almaty city into a sub-regional hub of multilateral diplomacy will pave a good foundation for further cooperation. I believe, granting of the UN regional centre status would contribute to scale fulfillment of regional projects purposed to strengthen cooperation in Central Asia and give an impetus to the process of involvement to "the orbit of development assistance" to the neighboring states and regions," the Kazakh FM noted.
