Almaty - Khorgos section construction kicks off

ASTANA. KAZINFORM Construction of the 304,4 km long Almaty -Khorgos road has started in the Almaty region. It is one of the last sections of the Western Europe-Western China international transit corridor running through Kazakhstan, the Kazakh Transport and Communications Ministry said.

The project foresees construction of 56 bridges, 13 road junctions, 22 elevated roads and laying of 460 conduit pipes. 688 units of road machinery and 1,362 people are involved in the installation and construction works so far. The total length of the Kazakhstani section of the Western Europe-Western China international transit corridor is 2,787 km. 215 km were put into service in 2011, 700 km were commissioned in 2012 and 812 km in 2013. This year it is planned to complete construction and put into commission 157 km of the road running via four regions but for the Aktobe region. Reconstruction works of the corridor are expected to come to an end in 2015.
