Almaty Akim visits construction site of future mosque

ALMATY. August 21. KAZINFORM. /Yelena Ilyinskaya/ At the first day of the holy month of Ramadan Akim of Almaty Akhmetzhan Yessimov. Supreme Mufti of Kazakhstan Absattar Derbisali, Almaty regional authorities, sponsors and builders have visited the site of construction of a cathedral mosque nearby Almaty.
The issues of financing and construction were discussed; press service of the Almaty Akim told Kazinform.
June 28, 2007 Nursultan Nazarbayev laid a foundation stone in construction of the cathedral mosque. That time he approved the design of the mosque as well.
The total floor area of the future mosque is 16 ha. It will hold about 20,000 prayers.
The project's authors studied buildings of ancient mosques in Central Asia, Iran, Turkey, Arab countries. And then they created original design using elements of the national décor.
