World No. 57 Alexander Shevchenko of Kazakhstan lost to Denmark’s August Holmgren (ranked 166th) in the Men’s Singles of the World Group I First Round in Astana, Kazinform News Agency reports citing Sports.kz.
The Danish athlete beat Shevchenko in two sets with a score of 7:6, 6:3.
Earlier it was reported that Kazakhstani Alexander Bublik was stunned by Elmer Moller in two sets with a score of 6:2, 6:2.
Consequently, winning against Kazakhstan, Denmark has taken the initial lead in the competition with a score of 2-0.
The Davis Cup qualifying matches consist of four singles and one doubles match. The 12 winning nations from the World Group I ties will compete in the 2025 Davis Cup Qualifiers.
