Akim of Karaganda region negotiated with Romanian Ambassador

KARAGANDA. May 31. KAZINFORM - Baurzhan Abdishev, Akim of Karaganda region, met with Nicolae Ureke, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Romania to Kazakhstan, the Akim’s press service reports.

The meeting discussed the issues of cooperation. "More than 100 ethnic groups including the Romanian diaspora numbering about 4,000 people live in Karaganda region", said B. Abdishev.

“Romanian ethno-cultural association called "Dacia" has been operating in the region since 2005,” reminded Akim.

Speaking about foreign economic relations, B. Abdishev reported that the foreign trade turnover between the Karaganda region and Romania was USD 8.3 million including export - USD 2 million and import - USD 6.3 million. At present, there are more than 450 joint ventures with foreign capital in the region.

"At the same time, despite the huge potential for cooperation, we do not have any joint project with the Romanian side", stated the head of the region. N. Ureke told B. Abdishev about his research work on the history of the Romanians living in Kazakhstan.
