Airport runways to be rebuild in Kazakhstan

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - The runways of airports in five cities of Kazakhstan will be reconstructed in the next three years, this has been said by the Ministry of Transport and Communications.

"Runways of Taraz and Shymkent airports reconstructed in 2013. In 2014, it is scheduled to begin work on the reconstruction of flight strips at the airports of Uralsk and Petropavlovsk. In 2015-2016 we plan to update take-off runways in the cities of Semey and Kostanay, and in 2016-2017 - in Oskemen", the ministry said. The ministry reported that the country has 18 airports of republican and regional importance, 16 of them admitted to service international flights, and 12 are categorized according to the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Transport Ministry recalled that Kazakhstan has being modernized airports' ground infrastructure. To date, there have been reconstructed 13 runways and 9 terminals. It should be noted that all airports in Kazakhstan, except for the airport of Almaty, do not operate at full capacity. In this regard, the ministry does not plan to construct new international airports.
