Air France compensation for Brazilian crash victim's family
The court in Niteroi near Rio de Janeiro ruled Monday in favour of the family of Luciana Clarkson Seba, 31, who was travelling from Rio to Paris with her husband and in-laws when their plane crashed mid- Atlantic on June 1, 2009, dpa reported.
While 228 people died in the crash, only 51 bodies were recovered. The wreckage of the aircraft was not found, although portions of it were retrieved from the ocean.
The court ruled that Clarkson Seba's parents were to get 510,000 real each and her grandparents 102,000 real each. Air France was also ordered to pay her mother 5,000 real a month.
Judge Alberto Republicano said that compensation was due based on the "deep pain" inflicted on the family. While the accident could not have been predicted, he said it could have been avoided.
Air France would not comment on the ruling.
A renewed attempt to recover the wreckage is to start in February. Kazinform cites Trend News. See www.en.trend.az
