Afghan women call for equal right with men

KABUL. July 29. KAZINFORM Nationwide Association of Women of Afghanistan has called on the next president of the post-Taliban country to ensure the equity between men and women in society, Kazinform refers to Xinhua.

"Women are half of the population of Afghan society and this is the responsibility of the government to ensure them exercise their rights equal to men in all fields including election, management and administration in all government departments home and abroad," said a resolution of the association received here Wednesday.

    The seven-article resolution titled "Campaign for 50 percent and women demands from next president" called upon the next president to ensure the social security for women, which is necessary for social, cultural and economic development of the country.

    It emphasized for improving the rate of literacy among women, noting free education should be provided to girls and boys, particularly to women including the aged ones.

    The association also asked the next president to improve health service and facilitate for all women to have access to health clinics across the country.

    Enjoying the support of some 20 social and civil bodies, and having 10,000 signatures in its favor, the association said that Afghan women, like the men of this land, have enormously suffered due to the past three decades of war, Kazinform cites Xinhua. See www.chinaview.cn for full version.
