This is not the first visit of K.Joseph to Semey. Her acquaintance with the population of the region where nuclear tests were held during 40 years had begun several years ago.

She first visited Semey together with European Parliament Deputy Struan Stevenson at the invitation of Kazakh Majilis Deputy Yerzhan Rakhmetov. Acquaintance with the residents of villages - nuclear testing victims deeply shocked the foreign guests. Targeted assistance to the population and medical institutions was the result of their visit.

Struan Stevenson has written a book about the tragedy and presented it at the hematology department of the regional children's hospital. He presented toys to sick children and 20 thousand dollars to the administration of the hospital. The money was spent for expensive equipment.

K.Joseph helped the region as well establishing a special fund. Now she visits Semey as a film producer. As the actress said, she wanted to show in her film that despite the ecological tragedy the region keeps on living full life and achieving new heights in socio-economic development.

K.Joseph will stay in Semey till May 11. She plans to visit the oncology dispensary on April 30, take part in the folk festival devoted to the Day of Unity of People of Kazakhstan on May 1 and meet with residents of villages that she visited during her first visit. The producer plans to start filming in June this year.
