9 killed, 18 injured as bus plunges into river in central Nepal

KATHMANDU. July 16. KAZINFORM At least nine people died and 18 others were injured after a passenger bus swerved off the Prithvi Highway and fell some 200 meters down into the Trishuli River in Dhading district in central Nepal on Monday morning, according to Xinhua.
The ill-fated bus was en route to the capital Kathmandu from Katari when the mishap happened, police said.
Local emergency rescuers rescued some people and fished out bodies of a woman, a child and four men immediately after the accident. The injured passengers have been sent to local hospitals for treatment.
The bus was carrying about 50 passengers and was moving in high speed. It skidded off the road probably due to brake failure during light drizzle, eye-witnesses said. Local rescue workers, personnel of the Armed Police Force and Nepal Police and locals are carrying out rescue works.
