7 miners left trapped in mine in Kazakhstan’s Ulytau region

Seven workers are trapped inside an underground shaft at Zhomart mine in Ulytau region, Kazakhstan, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports.

There has no information so far on the condition of those trapped, according to the country’s Emergency Situations Ministry.

The incident occurred at around 4:50pm local time 150km away from Zhezkazgan town.

The personnel of the Ulytau and Karaganda regions’ emergency situations departments, consisting of canine teams, specialists from the Disaster Medicine Center and psychologists, left for the incident site.

Operations centers have been set up at the Command Center of the Emergency Situations Ministry and the Emergency Situations Department. The hotline was created: 8 (7271) 55-96-21.

To note, an explosion rocked the Kostenko mine in Karaganda region owned by JSC ArcelorMittal Temirtau on October 28, 2023, killing 46 miners.
