6-year-old accidentally shoots woman in car, kills her
The victim, 22-year-old Alexandra Anita Santos, was in the passenger seat of a car when she was shot. The gunshot came from behind her and went through the seat, according to wistv.com. Santos was accidentally shot by a 6-year-old child, who found the gun on the floorboard of the backseat.
The woman was brought to the Baptist Medical Center in Easley where she was pronounced dead a short time later. Coroner Kandy Kelly said Santos died of a single gunshot wound to the chest.
FOX Carolina spoke exclusively to the family of Santos. Her mother, Cynthia Yergeau, said the woman who was with Santos called her to tell her the dreaded news. Yergeau said the woman told her, though, that Santos' ex-boyfriend was responsible for her death.
"You give any kind of access to a firearm six-year-old child, somebody needs to be responsible," said Yergeau. "Take responsibility, own up to what your kids did," she said.
The investigation is ongoing.
