52% still save electricity following 2011 disasters: survey

TOKYO. May 189. KAZINFORM More than half of respondents have continued efforts to save on electricity since the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami that devastated northeastern Japan and the ensuing Fukushima nuclear crisis, a survey on people's behaviors following the disasters showed Friday.

Nineteen percent of the respondents said they have not made such efforts after the disasters, while 24 percent said they did so after they occurred but are not doing so currently, according to the survey conducted by the Research Institute for Advancement of Living Standards, the think tank of the Japanese Trade Union Confederation known as Rengo, Kyodo reports.

The institute asked around 1,900 people in their 20s to 50s, who live in the Tokyo metropolitan area or the Kansai area centering on Osaka and work at private companies, in early April about if or how their behaviors have changed since the disasters.
