WELLINGTON. May 30. KAZINFORM A 5.5 magnitude earthquake struck New Zealand North Island's east coast on Monday, causing no casualties or damage. Kazinform refers to Xinhua.
The quake, occurred at 12:42 p.m. (0042 GMT), was centered 30 km south west of Ruatoria and was 70 km deep, the New Zealand state geological monitoring agency GNS Science said. The tremor was felt in the Gisborne and Bay of Plenty regions. Kazinform cites Xinhua. See www.xinhuanet.com
