4-month-old baby found dead after being left alone at home

According to reports, unemployed mother İlknur A. left home early in the morning to seek job leaving the baby, Damla, at home with her father, Yıldırım A. The father also left the house upon receiving a call from work around 10 a.m. after giving baby Damla a bottle. The baby stayed alone throughout the day in the house. The father returned home at 6 p.m. and found his daughter dead on her crib. The body of the baby was taken to mersin University's Teaching and Research Hospital for an autopsy while her parents were detained. The incident is reminiscent of the tragic death of baby Berk, a two-month-old infant who died after his mother went on vacation and left him alone in the Gölcük district of Kocaeli province in 2013. His mother, who is a teacher identified as Seçil M.D., found her baby's body at home after returning from a nine-day-long vacation for Eid al-Adha. Upon returning home she took the baby to Necati Çelik State Hospital after finding him still and breathless. She said she did not take the baby with her because her family did not know about the child, and she was afraid of their reaction. After doctors informed police of the situation, the police detained the mother and she was later arrested by a court.
