3,000 sq km of Semipalatinsk test site to be rehabilitated

SEOUL. March 27. KAZINFORM "3,000 square km of the former Semipalatinsk test site have been rehabilitated with the participation of Russia and the US," said Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev at the ceremony of the adoption of the tripartite statement of the Kazakh, Russian and the US Presidents.

"As known, the Semipalatinsk test site along with the Nevada wert the greatest testing venues in the world. There were made 500 nuclear explosions, including 70 atmospheric nuclear explosions. The testing ground had been closed 20 years ago. Today we, along with Russia and the US, are working to eliminate all the consequences, for the rehabilitation of the range," the Kazakh President noted.
On behalf of the Kazakh people N. Nazarbayev thanked Russia and the US for the assistance and also expressed hope for further cooperation in this field.
