26 Kazakh athletes to compete in XX Winter Deaflympic Games in Türkiye
An official ceremony of seeing off the national team to the XX Winter Deaflympic Games was held in Almaty on Monday, February 27, Kazinform News Agency reports.
The XX Deaflympic Games will be held in the Turkish city of Erzurum from March 2 to 12. The event will bring together around 1,000 athletes from 36 countries of the world, who will compete for 34 sets of medals in six sports: alpine skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, chess, futsal, and curling.
Kazakh team consisting of 26 athletes will contend in chess, snowboarding and cross-country skiing.

Sultan Kozhakhmetov, bronze medalist of the 2022 World Team Deaf Chess Championship, was honored to bear the Flag of Kazakhstan at the opening ceremony. The Flag was handed over to him by the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games winner, boxer Yermakhan Ibraimov.

Kazakhstan has been participating in the Winter Deaflympic Games since 2015, with the first gold medal won in 2019, during the 19th edition of the Games held in the Italian province of Sondrio.
