The event, initiated by the Kazakh Supreme Court, EU Delegation to Kazakhstan and UNICEF, was dated to the 20th anniversary of Kazakhstan's ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. It brought together about 120 delegates. The goal of the conference was to debate Kazakhstan's legal system's achievements in protection of children's rights and their interests after accession to the UN Convention, to share practice and put forward new ideas on improvement of the juvenile justice system. Those attending discussed vital issues concerning activities of specialized juvenile courts, alternative justice tools for children who violated laws at pre-trial and trial stages, upgrading of children's protection mechanisms, including victims and witnesses. Special attention was paid to measures for further development, coordination and specialization of the country's legal system in order to enhance protection of the rights and interests of the child.
