20 projects to be implemented for food belt development in Almaty rgn

According to the press service of the regional Akim, the area of perennial crops will be 9500 hectares. In addition 32 hectares will be planted with Aport apple orchards with drip irrigation. There are 324 greenhouses with a total area of 38 hectares in the region. In 2013 the volume of production of greenhouse vegetables as compared to 2011 increased by 1.3 times and reached 10.2 thousand tons. The region has 61 fruit and vegetable store cellars with the capacity of 103.5 thousand tons. In addition "Sybaga" state program, implemented in the area, aims to increase meat production. There have been purchased 21 thousand heads of breeding stock, imported 4.5 million heads of foreign selection which allows supplying Almaty with 23 tons of meat annually.
