'16 days without violence against women' action starts in Astana

ASTANA. November 25. KAZINFORM - Every year on November 25 one marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

It is held in accordance with the provisions of the Convention on Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, which was ratified by the Republic of Kazakhstan 29 July 1998.

In the period from 25 November to 10 December in the territory of Astana the police will carry out the campaign named "16 days without violence against women" under the slogan "From peace in home to peace in the world. Stop violence against women".

The main aim of the campaign is to familiarize the general public about the measures taken to prevent and combat violence against women, and to draw public attention to this problem.

During the promotion period at the district police stations together with concerned government agencies and non-governmental organizations there will work a "public reception" aimed at providing advice to women on various legal issues.

Volunteers together with the inspectors to protect women from violence are distributing among the population booklets and leaflets explaining the law on prevention of domestic violence.

During 2013 Astana has registered 5935 crimes and offenses committed against women. Out of them 907 facts are in the sphere of family relations. Management staff of the Astana administrative police for offenses in the family and domestic sphere has brought to administrative responsibility 453 offenders, out of which 115 people were arrested, 91 cases connected with beatings, and 19 offenders were taken under arrest.
