16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence Campaign ends in Kazakhstan and Central Asia
Kazakhstan remains committed to combating gender-based violence and protecting the rights of women and girls. This is what Zhanibek Abdrashov, Ambassador-at-Large – Head of the Representative Office of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry, said at a cultural event dedicated to the closing of "16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence” advocacy campaign in Kazakhstan and Central Asia, the press service of the Kazakh MFA reported.

The event was organized by the UN Women in cooperation with the Central Asian Alliance for the Elimination of Gender-Based Violence.
Ambassador Abdrashov stressed successful implementation of the joint EU-UN Spotlight Initiative in Central Asia, the creation of the Central Asian Alliance for the Elimination of Gender-Based Violence, as well as the adoption of the UN Human Rights Council resolution on the elimination of domestic violence, supported by more than 60 countries.
An important milestone was the election of the famous Kazakh diplomat Madina Zharbusynova to the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).
In addition, Kazakhstan became the co-chair of the «Beijing+30» regional review and presented a roadmap for the implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 “Women, Peace and Security”. Women peacekeepers from Kazakhstan also successfully serve in the international arena.
The Head of the MFA Representative Office assured that Kazakhstan remains committed to combating gender-based violence and protecting the rights of women and girls.

16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is a key international event calling to end violence against women and girls. It runs from 25th November (the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) until 10th December, Human Rights Day.
Earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, with the support of the Council of Europe (CoE) and the European Union (EU), organized a two-day seminar for representatives of Kazakhstan’s governmental bodies and non-governmental organizations titled “Protection of Women’s Rights: International and European Approaches”.
