"Zhetysu-2009" exercises - good basis of Kazakhstan's cooperation with NATO and EADRCC - G. Bretschneider

ALMATY.  July 16. KAZINFORM  /Yelena Ilyinskaya/ The forthcoming Zhetysu-2009 international exercises will lay positive foundation for closer cooperation of Kazakhstan with the NATO's military forces and the EADRCC (Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre). Head of the EADRCC Gunther Bretschneider has made it public during the final planning conference on Zhetysu-2009 exercises in Almaty today.

According to G. Bretschneider, for the first time Kazakhstan will such large-scale military exercises. In 2003 they were organized in Uzbekistan. The objectives and the scenario of the exercises were the same: disaster - earthquake. As the Head of the EADRCC noted, the most important thing is to work out the mechanisms of joint actions of all rescue units. "Today during the conference we will focus on organizational issues: reception of the delegations, border-crossing procedures, issues of logistics and technique placement", he said.

As is known, the Zhetysu-2009 exercises will be held in Almaty oblast at the polygon of the Kazakh Ministry of Emergencies "Skalnyi gorod - Astana" (Rocky town - Astana) on Sep 5-11, 2009 under the aegis of the Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre.
