Zero-energy buildings and passive houses designing and construction discussed at UNDP seminar in Astana

ASTANA. September 24. KAZINFORM UNDP/GEF project on energy-efficiency buildings in cooperation with JSC "Kazakhstan Housing and Utilities Reform Centre" and German Initiative "Wohnungswirtschaft Osteuropa" (IWO) held last week seminars in Pavlodar and Astana on "Building life cycle - modern approach to energy-efficient design and construction of buildings. Zero-energy buildings and passive houses".

During the seminars, experts from the technical university of Berlin and design bureau IPBB GmbH (Berlin) told how to ensure building energy-efficiency on all stages of its life-cycle starting with design and ending with building operation. In addition, foreign engineers will present the comparative analysis of the German construction and architectural standards for new, zero-energy and passive buildings, and their payback periods, using the examples of the true-life construction projects in Berlin. It is planned, that the experts will also present the calculations for the passive houses for Kazakhstan climatic conditions.

The specialists of the UNDP/GEF project on energy-efficiency briefed the seminar participants on the construction progress, engineering design and expected energy consumption economy of the pilot energy-efficient residential building in Karaganda, the UNDP Kazakhstan said.

The producers of the innovative construction materials and technology that meet all quality standards (plastic window extrusions, heat and ventilation systems, thermal insulating materials, etc.) will also take part in the seminars.

The events were organized to raise awareness of designers, architects, construction specialists, teaching staff and students of the technical higher education institutions on the standards and practical solutions of energy efficient design and construction.
