"Kiev will be unable to guarantee gas supplies starting from 2010. It is the question of the gas transportation network, which needs billions for further operation and modernization. The principle of the tariff on Russian gas transit through Ukraine is unclear. This is not a market, this is political pressure," he told a Tuesday press conference in Kiev.

The amount of Russian gas to be transported through Ukraine to EU member countries in 2010 is also unclear, Yushchenko said.

Ukraine has applied to the European Commission for a review of the transit policy, starting from guaranteed amounts of Russian gas and to the tariff policy, he said; Kazinform cites Itar-Tass. See www.itar-tass.com for full version.
