World-class wushu athletes gather in Kazakh capital

From June 7 to 17, Astana is hosting the International Wushu Training Camp, dedicated to the UN International Day of Dialogue Among Civilizations, Qazinform News Agency reports citing the Kazakh Wushu and Kung Fu Federation.

The event is organized by the International Wushu Federation together with the National Wushu Federation of Kazakhstan, supported by the Embassy of China in Kazakhstan and the Tourism and Sports Ministry of Kazakhstan.

It brings together more than 70 athletes, coaches, and specialists from Kazakhstan, China, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. The program includes joint training sessions, master classes, and educational lectures designed to improve the skills of both athletes and coaches.

Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of China to Kazakhstan Han Chunlin, deputy chairman of the Physical Culture and Sports Committee of the Tourism and Sports Ministry Amanbay Nurmukhanbetov and secretary general of the Kazakhstan Wushu and Kung Fu Federation Madina Astamirova took part in the solemn ceremony.

Ambassador Han Chunlin emphasized the high level of cooperation between Kazakhstan and China and expressed readiness to continue supporting projects aimed at developing wushu in Kazakhstan.

Amanbay Nurmukhanbetov noted the importance of such events for strengthening international ties and preparing high-level athletes.

Madina Astamirova thanked participants, coaches, sports organizations, and partners for their contribution to the development of wushu in Kazakhstan and international cooperation.

A highlight of the ceremony was the joint demonstration performances by the national wushu taolu teams of Kazakhstan and China.

President of the Kazakh Wushu and Kung Fu Federation Gaji Gajiyev met with representatives of the Chinese delegation, including Director of the Chinese Cultural Center in Astana Wang Qingping, Deputy Secretary General of the Chinese Wushu Association Zhang Lei, and senior coach of China’s national sanda team Chen Yansheng.

The Chinese side expressed gratitude to the Government of Kazakhstan and the national federation for the high level of organization.

Zhang Lei said today Astana can rightly be called an important platform for international sports exchange and for strengthening friendship between peoples.

Gaji Gajiyev also stressed the significance of such initiatives for developing Kazakhstan’s wushu school and preparing athletes for international competitions.

He emphasized Kazakhstan is making every effort to effectively develop this sport. The national team of Kazakhstan actively participates in many international wushu sanda and taolu championships. Thanks to dedication, hard work, and love for wushu, Kazakh athletes achieve high results and win medals on the world stage.

“We deeply value the attention of the International Wushu Federation and highly skilled specialists from friendly China, the birthplace of this sport. We believe that experience and knowledge shared with our sportsmen and wushu teams from Central Asia will mark the beginning of a new history of victories and shared success,” he said. 

The camp will run until June 17, with a program of intensive training, educational activities, lectures, and practical sessions aimed at further developing wushu in Kazakhstan and across Central Asian nations.

Noteworthy, Kazakhstan's Gennady Golovkin was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
