World Bank supports Kazakhstan since early days of independence - Nazarbayev

During the meeting, the sides discussed strengthening of cooperation between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the World Bank Group, especially in the context of the new framework partnership agreement inked in May 2014. President Nazarbayev and the World Bank Managing Director also touched upon the economic challenges that the world community and Kazakhstan face nowadays. Nursultan Nazarbayev noted the World Bank had been Kazakhstan's strategic partner since the early days of its independence. Ms Indrawati, in turn, pointed out the progress achieved by Kazakhstan in the sphere of regional and global integration and expressed hope that our country would play a key role in the regulation of water and energy resources management in the region. "Cooperation between Kazakhstan and the World Bank is quite successful and is aimed at facilitating the diversification of Kazakhstan's economy and achieving the progress in sustainable development. The signing of the framework partnership agreement is very important," she added. Kazakhstan joined the World Bank Group in July 1992. Since then, the World Bank provided Kazakhstan with loans worth $6.8 billion for implementation of 41 projects in various fields.
