Workshop on cost-benefit analysis of measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to be held in Astana
ASTANA. October 13. KAZINFORM On 19-20 October 2011 the joint UNDP/MEP RK Project " Strengthening the capacity in the field of sustainable development through integration of climate change issues into strategic planning in the Republic of Kazakhstan" is conducting a workshop "Cost-benefit analysis: Methodology and Practical Examples."
Economic methods are widely used in the evaluation of government programs and projects. The cost-benefit analysis can be identified among the best known and the most frequently used. This method of assessment of investment needs, socio-economic benefits and the feasibility of measures has become a defining tool for evaluating the economic efficiency in USA and the European Union, the press service of the UNDP in Kazakhstan reports.
The workshop is primarily aimed at equipping participants with the knowledge and necessary skills to use methodology in the economic evaluation of anticipated costs and benefits of measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The workshop will be delivered by Dr. Todor Balabanov, an international consultant, Senior Researcher at the Institute for Advanced Studies (Austria, Vienna). Dr.Todor Balabanov has 28 years of experience in the use of economic methods and tools for assessing climate change and energy production. Participants of the workshop will become familiar with theoretical materials and how they are used globally. They will learn to work with databases and interpret the obtained results at practical sessions.
The workshop is organized for representatives of government agencies, business, public and scientific community.
