Trade jobs grow in popularity in colleges in Abai region
Abai region eyes nearly 300 events under its regional plan, as the year 2025 is marked as the Year of Trade Jobs in Kazakhstan, Kazinform News Agency reports.
The implementation of the plan is to cover all cities and districts of the region, marking the year as a celebration of labor and professionalism.
There are over 21,000 students attending 33 colleges in Abai region. In the new 2024/25 academic year, 5,900 students were enrolled, with 2,000 opting for career in trades. Presently, a total of 5,444 students are pursuing trade professions in 21 colleges across the region.
Among the most sought-after specialties in trades are electric gas welders, electricians, plumbers, builders, cooks, tailors, hairdressers as well as specialists in the field of digital technologies, the interest in which grows with each passing year.
The region’s 33 colleges implement the dual education system, incorporating practice at enterprises. Presently, 3,060 students are being trained in 70 specialties under this system. Besides, 20 colleges have memorandums signed with 22 enterprises, allowing 4,200 students to study under employers’ patronage.
This year, the colleges of the region seek to launch new specializations including instrumentation fitters, turners, electrical engineers and merchandizers. The educational programs for senior pupils are run in the pilot mode, with 10-11th graders having the opportunity to get a college diploma in parallel.
In addition, Abai region’s college students traditionally occupy top spots at WorldSkills championships, with the region’s team taking home the title of national champions for two years in a row.
