Women’s participation in representative authorities grows, President Tokayev
At the II republican forum of deputies of maslikhats of all levels the Head of State noted today an increase in female participation in representative authorities, Kazinform news Agency reports citing the Akorda press service.
He stressed women’s proposals, especially concerning the protection of their rights, win all-around state support as a certain outcome of the reforms.
The Head of State highlighted people have got an opportunity to participate in the political process and take an active part in dealing with problems at the local levels. All this meets the principles of ‘the listening state’. Reforms also helped expand the authority of deputies.
The President said deputies were empowered with an option to elect akims (mayors and governors) of the regions and cities of republican significance on an alternative basis. Thereupon the maslikhats hold the same responsibility for ensuring the welfare of the regions as akimats.
