WHO: Infant mortality is still high
ASTANA. May 15. KAZINFORM - According to the World Health Organization, recent data suggest that doctors and humanitarian organizations have been able to make serious progress in reducing child mortality in the world. However, the long-term goal set earlier - to reduce it by two thirds by 2015 - will not be achieved, reports BBC.
Published data show that from 1990 to 2011 the number of children who die before they reach the age of five has dropped from 12 to less than 7 million.
WHO continues to draw attention to the persistent inequalities in health and access to medicine, but at the same time emphasizes that in recent years there have been significant changes. Thus, the life expectancy of a child born in China, is now higher than in many Eastern European countries.
