WFP needs USD 3bln to feed hungry

WASHINGTON. July 31. KAZINFORM /Aliya Altyngazina/ The World Food Program is experienced an unprecedented financing gap preventing to feed 108 million people in 74 countries; Kazinform reports.
The WFP Executive Director Josette Sheeran informed that the budget deficit of the organization can amount to USD 3 bln this year. Only USD 3.7 bln was allotted of the USD 6.7 bln needed to fund the World Food Programme.
The Organiazation has to cut back rations and programs for the most vulnerable layers of population of the Planet.
Josette Sheeran welcomed promise of the G8 to allocate USD 20 bln for global food security as its initiative could help end chronic hunger in the long term, Sheeran said.
