"Yesterday, the Japanese people and the world marked the anniversary of the tragic events in Japan. The devastating earthquake and tsunami killed tens of thousands of people, destroyed cities, and caused the largest after the Chernobyl nuclear disaster at the station Fukushima-1. The accident resulted in contamination of large areas with radioactive substances," Abibullayev said.

He noted that the Government of Kazakhstan allocated to the Japanese side financial assistance in the amount of USD 1 million. Abibullayev also reminded that, in light of the accident at Fukushima-1 plant, speaking at the UN General Assembly in September 2011, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev proposed to develop universal principles of peaceful uses of atomic energy.
