We should be seriously engaged in development of alternative energy: President
ASTANA. December 7. KAZINFORM /Muratbek Makulbekov/ "We should be seriously engaged in development of alternative energy", President N.Nazarbayev said answering questions of students of the Nazarbayev University in Astana on Tuesday.
"Kazakhstan produces only one percent of alternative energy. In this regard, we are working on several projects today. For instance, our innovator Albert Bolotov invented a new wind turbine. The Kazatomprom has already assembled 20 of such turbines in East Kazakhstan. We can produce about 100 megawatt of wind energy", the President said.
He noted that the hydro energy had great prospects for development in Kazakhstan as well. There exist opportunities for solar energy production as long as a plant on production of silicon metal has been built in Karaganda. Besides, the bio-energy is planned to be developed as well.
