"The Astana Summit convened by the President of Kazakhstan for the first time after the 11-year break provides a unique chance for our countries and their political leaders to demonstrate that the principles of comprehensive security and cooperation on which the OSCE bases are still relevant. In the upcoming 100 days before the Summit we have to perform huge work to make this historical meeting fruitful, to hold it at a high level and to let the leaders of the OSCE states lay foundation for transition from the concept of a 'space of security from Vancouver to Vladivostok' to creation of the 'community of security', to further strengthening and renewing of our common Organization", Saudabayev noted.

The last summit of the OSCE Heads of State was held in Istanbul in 1999. The decision to hold the Summit this year in Astana was taken by the Foreign Ministers of the Organization on August 3 at the informal meeting in Almaty.
