At the meeting in The Hague, the sides eyed bilateral commercial and economic, scientific and technical as well as investment cooperation between Kazakhstan and Japan. Nursultan Nazarbayev and Shinzō Abe noted prospects for cooperation between a number of Kazakhstani and Japanese companies. The Kazakh President also stressed Kazakhstan's interest in the development of mutually profitable partnership in all spheres. President Nazarbayev said a joint Kazakh-Japanese rare metals plant successfully functions in the Akmola region and pointed out the two nations should step up technological and innovative cooperation within the industrialization program of Kazakhstan. Mr. Abe, in turn, said he was delighted to meet President Nazarbayev for the first time since the G20 Summit in Saint Petersburg last year. "Your visit to Japan in 2008 helped strengthen economic ties. And I would like to thank you for Kazakhstan's contribution to stabilization of the situation in Afghanistan. We count on your country's support in building a dialogue between Japan and the Central Asian nations," S. Abe concluded.
